Catfish, Channel Ictalurus punctatus
This specimen was caught in the Mullica River, NJ, at the mouth of the river by Graveling Point. Usually only see catfish there when it has been raining heavily, but they are often caught further back in the river.
To 3'11" and a possible 58 lbs. Slender, back blue-grey, sides light blue to silver with dark olive to black spots in no regluar pattern. Head wide, flat to slighty rounded at the top. Longer black whisker on each side starting from the upper nose just before the eye. Shorter tan-silver whiskers on the chin.
Will hit on just about any bait, this one was caught on bloodworm. Lots of folks use live minnows.
Highly edible.
