In the family of the Jacks/Pompanos. Flatish, elongate silver body. Pectoral fins are pale yellow in color and translucent, caudal/tail fin yellow. The thin anal fin that ends parallel to the second dorsal fin also yellow, curving back towards the tail. Pelvic fins directly below pectoral fins, also yellow. First dorsal fin spiny, second dorsal fin slightly less so, thinning down as it ends just before the tail. Rounded sloping forehead, slightly upturned mouth, largish yellow eyes, close to the front of the fish. Lateral line runs from the tail, halfway cross the body, ending in a arch just behind the pectoral fins. Black spot near the gills, and on the pectoral fin . Grows up to 5 feet/20 lbs. East coast range.
Edible, but not commonly consumed by folks in the U.S., considered a sportfish here.
