The
Black Drum
Average weight 20-40lbs up to 146lbs. Short, deep body with high
arched back. Mouth is low on the head, running horizontal. The color when
living is silvery-brass, darkening to the grey-black that gives it its
name after it dies. The fins are dark. Lacks the spot near
the tail fin that distinguishes it from the
Bait: clams, mussels,
crabs, shrimp. Smaller fish are actually better eating. The Baby Black
Drum resembles the Banded Rudderfish.
Edible - considered both food and gamefish.
