Rowland 210 Capitol Ave. Hartford, CT 06106 Dear Governor Rowland, The Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) is a national, non-profit grassroots political action organization whose mission is to safeguard the rights of salt water anglers, protect marine, boat and tackle industry jobs, and insure the long-term sustainability of our nation's marine fisheries. As such, I respectfully urge you to contact your colleague, Governor Pataki regarding the proposed opening of a commercial striped bass fishery in the Hudson River. The Hudson River is the second largest spawning and nursery ground for Atlantic striped bass. The Connecticut striped bass fishery is part of the Hudson River stock. A commercial fishery for striped bass in New York's Hudson River will threaten the future viability of Connecticut's fishery. Please contact your friend and colleague Governor Pataki and urge him to oppose any commercial fishery in the Hudson River for striped bass. Sincerely, James A. Donofrio Executive Director |

Pataki State Capitol, 138 Eagle Street Albany, NY 12202 Dear Governor Pataki: The Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) is a 501(c)(4) non-profit political action organization whose mission is to safeguard the rights of salt water anglers, protect marine, boat, and tackle industry jobs, and insure the long-term sustainability of our nation's marine fisheries. As such, RFA members find the proposed opening of a commercial striped bass fishery in the Hudson River both unwarranted and unacceptable. The Hudson River is the second largest spawning and nursery area for Atlantic striped bass. The Hudson Fishery supports viable striped bass fisheries in Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island, bringing millions of dollars to local communities from recreational fishing activities. New York has a responsibility to other states and their citizens who depend on a healthy striped bass fishery for its socioeconomic benefits. I can assure you that the vast majority of New York's recreational anglers are opposed to any commercial fishery for striped bass in the Hudson River. We stand united with many state and local organizations in our opposition, including New York Fishing Tackle Trade Association (NYFTTA), Hudson River Fishermen's Association (HRFA), Jersey Coast Anglers Association (JCAA) and Connecticut/Rhode Island Coastal Fly Fishing (CT/RI Coastal Fly Fishing). We urge you to embrace your stewardship role for this economically valuable fishery for New York's own recreational fishermen, as well as those from neighboring states. Thank you for your consideration of our view. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, James A.
